Quest 9
Wikis are cool, but it just seems to be one more way to share info. I checked out some of the ones suggested with the Quest. Not really interested. The Wiki I visit most and benefit from most is the Library Goddesses Wikis. This started out as a blog of book suggestions for all age ranges. But, they decided to let others suggest books and made the wiki! I love it. It has book reviews from other librarians around the country. When I have a little down time I always visit the wikis for kids to see what is out there that we don't have yet. I have never contributed because that would require me going to a bookstore to explore new titles, and, well, I just haven't taken the time to do that lately.
From my experience with the Library Goddesses Wiki, I would say that Wikis are a valuable way to share information with others!

Quest 8
So, I have tried the MySpace thing and it is cool! I contacted friends that I haven't talked to in a few years. But, then I just couldn't find the time to go back. I am on the computer at work all day, so I don't want to be on the computer at night. I can understand how lots of my friends do this when they get home, because they work at a restaurant or somewhere other than a desk. But, I just cannot sit at the computer anymore when I get home. Now I have guilty feelings about getting in touch with people and then vanishing again. Oh well, I guess not that guilty because I'm not making that much of an effort to change.
Social Networking is an odd concept for me. I can understand the value of it. Several of my friends use it to meet people from all over the country. I guess they have fun with it and with meeting new people that way. Maybe I just don't have that much of an urge to add to my friend base.
Aside from what I think about it, I know that teens and even kids younger than 11 are using MySpace very regularly! This is THE way for teens to network. There are obvious dangers, but there are even more benefits. Technology based jobs will be the best way to make a living in the future and the sooner they get used to that the better!!
So, even though I don't care for social networking, I know that there are benefits and it is a valuable tool in the world as we know today!

Flickr seems cool...
I created an account. I hope to use it to keep track of pictures we take here at the library. Today I posted three pictures of our newest displays. Now lets see if I can get one to show up here...
Del.icio.us is just tasty; Technorati = lemons
The idea of Del.icio.us is great!! I can see this being a very useful tool primarily because our Favorites Box is loaded with websites and I have no idea what they are. At least with Del.icio.us I can look at the site and know why I saved it! I can actually see myself using this site. Hopefully, the next time I find a useful collection of book recommendations, I will be able to remember to tag it on my Del.icio.us account!!
I don't really get the Technorati site. I am sure it would be helpful for someone who monitored blog sites, lots of them. But, I don't seem to have to time to keep up with such things. I am not sure if its that I have reached that point of technology overload or if I just don't search the web enough to warrant this sort of engine. I know people who probably use this sort of thing, so I understand the usefulness; and I will know in the future what to recommend when a patron starts to complain. If this is all I get from this exercise then I consider it worth my time. So regardless of whether I will actually use Technorati, I have at least opened my mind to it.
